Obituary-Gary Chaput

Gary Virgil Chaput, age 73, died November 20, 2023, at the Saint Lukes Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on October 12, 1950, to Virgil and Lela (Schumock) Chaput, in Clay Center, KS. Gary grew up in the Clifton area and graduated from Clifton High School in 1969. In enlisted into the United States Army in 1970. He served as an active-duty soldier from 1970-1976. Immediately following, he joined the Kansas National Guard and served from 1976-1989. Gary married Brenda Deaver in 1974. To this union three children were born. Gary worked for Hutchinson Maywrath, LCL Buffalo Ranch, and retired from Heatron in Leavenworth, KS. Even though Gary was referred to as a stubborn ol’ fart, he loved to talk, tell jokes and was quite the prankster. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering in his shop. Gary could be found each morning with a coffee and newspaper in his hand. He is preceded in death by parents and sister, Judy Duggan.

Brother: Larry (Judy) Chaput of Clifton, KS

Grandchildren: Calvin, Christian (Rebecca), Conner, Kayleigh, Kylee and Katelynn Fouquet, Breanna, D.J., Dominic, Hunter and Maci Chaput, Raylea Studt

Great Grandchildren: Elizabeth and Evelyn Fouquet, Sage Chaput, and Lakelynn Smith

Funeral Services: November 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clifton, KS

Minister: Father Steve Heina

Burial: St. Marys Cemetery, Clifton, Kansas

Visitation: November 25, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clifton, KS
