Gregory K. Johnson, passed away in Frisco, Texas on June 26, 2024. He was born on March 19, 1950 in Concordia Kansas, to Herbert and Dorthy (Green) Johnson. After graduating from Courtland High School in 1968, he attended Fort Hays State University and ultimately graduated with distinction from UMKC School of dentistry in 1976.
Upon graduating from dental school, Greg married Mary Ann Head in Corpus Christi on November 19, 1976. He served in the United States Navy Dental Corps and retired after 21 years of dedicated service, being awarded the Presidential Meritorious Service Medal for his service from June 1994 to April 1997 with the United States Marine Corps, Pacific.
After retirement from the Navy, he began a second career at UMKC School of Dentistry, where he taught for 18 years. Greg took on many different additional roles, serving on multiple committees including “Team Smile” supervising child dental care and a number of years on the Alumni Board. Upon his retirement he was granted the title of Clinical Professor Emeritus.
Greg served on the Board of Directors at Swedish American State Bank in Courtland for 15 years and was a percussionist for both the Parkville Community band and the Salina Isis band.
Greg and Mary Ann loved to travel and have seen many parts of the world. Greg was a member of Courtland Lodge #211, Scottish Rite, ISIS Shrine Temple of Salina Kansas and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity of Fort Hays State University. Greg was a man of faith, proud veteran, high school honors drummer, Royals and Chiefs fan, front-row center-stage theater enthusiast, hunter, fisherman, pontoon boat driver, and lover of fresh flowers, good food, God, family and Country.
Greg is survived by Mary Ann Johnson; nephews Tanner Johnson, Travis Johnson, Patrick Head, Stephen Lewis, and Aaron Head; nieces Tara Renze, Rachel Allenbaugh, Jenny Allenbaugh, Tracey Ludvicek, and Elisabeth George; and many loving grand nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Courtland, Kansas. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Courtland Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service, from 9am – 11am, at the church.
