Obituary-Jack L. Cornett

Jack Laverne Cornett was born on July 28, 1955, in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Glen V. & Erma J. (Blackburn) Cornett. Jack grew up on the family farm, and attended country school until the 3rd grade, and then Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School with class of 1973. He then went onto Kansas State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Ag. Economics.

He was united in marriage to Sheila M. Rhine on July 27, 1986, in Belleville.

He was a lifelong farmer/stockman in the Belleville and Scandia areas.

Jack passed away on October 22, 2023, at the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 24 days.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Erma Cornett.

He will be forever remembered by his wife Sheila, daughter Stephanie Gillig and her husband Jason of Salina, grandchildren Zachary, Samantha, and Alexander Gillig; sisters Kathy Fielder (Ron), Connie Meyer (Paul), Shirley Blackburn (Patrick) and Janet Moeller (Ken). Jack is also survived by his brother-in-law Tim Rhine (Debbie), and sisters-in-law Natalie Livingston (Ed) and Lori Caspers (Jim), nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., at the Wesleyan Church in Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor David Redmond officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery, rural Scandia, Kansas.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm, with family greeting friends from 5 pm – 7 pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville.
