Obituary-James Grennan

James (Jim) Edward Grennan, Fort Collins, Colorado passed away August 14, 2024, after a long illness. He was born February 21, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas to John and Maxyne (Townsdin) Grennan. 

Jim grew up in Jamestown, Kansas and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968. He later graduated from Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas and then Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education. He lived in Colorado for most of his adult life. He farmed and custom cut wheat from Texas to Montana and later owned a roofing company.

In 2021, Jim authored and published a book, ‘Raising Up Boys in Kansas’. He was always trying to help others. He took numerous trips to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission in New Mexico with food and clothing. He was an avid treasure hunter and always had his metal detector just in case. He loved to play pool as well as chess.
Jim was a very devout Catholic. When it became very painful to walk, he continued to faithfully attend Mass even during the week. He loved his family and enjoyed his great-grandchildren immensely.

Jim is survived by his loving son Patrick (Bri) and her son Kallias, Loveland, Colorado, granddaughter Sahara (Jorge) Pastrana, Johnstown, Colorado, grandson Austin (Kaitlyn) Grennan, Johnstown, Colorado and great- grandchildren Amora Pastrana, Alina Pastrana, Adin Grennan and Amelia Grennan. He is also survived by his siblings F. Johanna Peltier, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Asa (Margie) Grennan, West Plains, Missouri, Pat Grennan, Loveland, Colorado, Mary Jo (Phil) Thornberry, Camdenton, Missouri, Kevin Grennan, Schaumburg, Illinois, Helen (Gary) Kearn, Salina, Kansas and an aunt, Polly Champlin, Mead, Colorado. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins including close friend and nephew Dustin Kearn, Tulsa, Oklahoma and cousin Tim Champlin, Loveland, Colorado. David Nagle, Loveland, Colorado, was a good friend and like a son to Jim. Jim is survived by many friends he made throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Vincent Peltier and sister-in-law Kathy Grennan.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Catholic Church, 1730 West 12th Street, Loveland, Colorado 80537. There will be a luncheon served at the church following the funeral. 

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Jamestown, Kansas, with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.  Following the graveside service the family invites everyone to the Senior Center downtown Jamestown for a luncheon and fellowship.
