James (Jim) Dean Mayer, age 71, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on May 24, 2023.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington with visitation one hour prior to service time.

Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery.

Jim was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on February 27, 1952, to Verlin and Gertrude (Schroeder) Mayer. In 1970, he graduated from Washington High School. In 1984, he married Christy Wayland.

Jim entered the workforce in Washington, working for a painting, siding, and gutter installation company before moving on to his own carpenter business for several years in Washington. In 1990, he and Christy separated and in 1991 he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he was a finish carpenter with Hampton Enterprises until his retirement in 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents Verlin and Gertrude Mayer and his brother Dennis Mayer.

He is survived by his older sister Marilyn (Pete) Dach, his other sister Pat Heser, and his younger brother Robert Mayer, along with 11 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
