Obituary-James “Jim” H. Dodds

James H. “Jim” Dodds, 82, Washington, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at his home.
 
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Washington City Cemetery, Washington. 

On May 3, 1942 Jim was born in rural Washington to Calvin and Clara (Menzies) Dodds.  He attended school in Washington and graduated high school in 1960. After graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force and served in South Korea along the DMZ line.

When Jim was honorably discharged in 1967.  He returned to Washington and ran a grocery store for a few years before working at FNB Bank, where he remained until he retired. 

Family get togethers, especially the holidays, he loved and would always bring his scalloped corn to share.  

When Jim was twelve he won a 1954 Ford at the Washington County Fair, but because he wasn’t old enough to drive, he decided to give the car to his dad. He also lectured students in the area about defensive driving.  

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Duncan Dodds, John Dodds and Calvin “Toad” Dodds; and infant sister, Barbara Dodds.

Survivors include sisters, Dorothy (Don) Slaughter, Belleville, Winifred Nutsch, Morrowville; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
