Obituary-Jimmy Barnes

Jimmy Lee Barnes, 71 died April 1, 2024, in Manhattan, KS.  He was born on March 19, 1953, in Clay Center, the son of Dale and Georgia (Knox) Barnes.  Jimmy was raised in Clifton and was a graduate of the class of 1971 from Clifton High School.  During high school and after graduation, he plumbed with Milton Anderson and Marsh Anderson.  He then worked as a welder at Gilmore-Tatge in Clay Center.  Jimmy drove trucks for his father at Dale Barnes Trucking for several years.  Later he owned and operated Jim Barnes Trucking.  Jimmy purchased Anderson plumbing, re-naming it Jim’s Plumbing which he operated for several years.  When he closed the plumbing business, he returned to his trucking business and also drove for Girton Propane and Farmer’s Oil.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Jimmy enjoyed black powder hunting, loved cars and car restoration work, he followed KU and KSU sports, and was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals.  He was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments at the Washington, Clyde and Clay Center public courses.  He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Alan Barnes.

Funeral Services:  10:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clifton, KS

Visitation: 5-7 PM Friday, April 12, 2024, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas
