Obituary-Judith Closson

Judith Elaine Closson, age 70, formerly of Manhattan, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.  She was born on June 18, 1952 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin and Betty (Taylor) Wright.

Judy graduated from Topeka West High School in 1970.

Judy married James Russell Eklund on August 28, 1970.  They had two children together, Emily Martin (Boerne, TX) and Eric Eklund (Goose Creek, SC).

On March 17, 1980 Judy married Roger Andrew Closson, they enjoyed 39 years of marriage and had one daughter, Rebekah Schuh (Riley, KS). He preceded her in death on February 2, 2020.

Judy earned her Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) from Barton Community College in 1991.  She started her nursing career in Topeka, KS.  She was a nurse in many different facilities including Newman Regional Health in Emporia, KS and retired from Manhattan Surgical Center in 2017. Judy was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Manhattan, KS.  Her and Roger traveled the United States and abroad as well as partaking in many different fishing and camping adventures. Most of all Judy loved spending time with her family and friends, most importantly her grandkids.  She loved watching the grandkids participate in their many activities and athletic events.

She is survived by three children, Emily Martin (Vick) of Boerne, Texas, Eric Eklund (Marie) of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Beka Schuh (Brian) of Riley, Kansas; one brother, Daniel Wright of Lincoln, Nebraska and six grandchildren, Dylan Eklund, Asher Eklund, Braxton Schuh, Brogan Schuh, Blaine Schuh and Bladen Schuh.

In addition to her husband, Roger Closson, she was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 15, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery outside of Manhattan.

Memorials may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
