Julie Slater, 62, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on November 5, 2022. She was born on January 30, 1960 to parents Calvin “Rex” and Sonia (Warren) DeRusseau.
She grew up in Clyde, Kansas and attended school there until transferring to Clifton for her senior year. She went on to attend LPN school in Beloit and then RN school at Cloud County Community College.
Julie used her RN degree in nursing homes, working at Park Villa in Clyde, Kansas and Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas.
She loved animals especially cats. The first cat she had was a Siamese named Tinkerbell. She also had a registered Persian named Missy. She loved kids and traveling. In her younger years she was described as a hippy, loving long hair and bellbottoms. She had a special relationship with her Grandma Goldie.
Julie is survived by her son, Jeremy (Shandi) Slater; grandchildren, Madison Knox, Maison Slater, and Mia Slater; mother, Sonia DeRusseau; brother, Marc DeRusseau (Kayleen); nephew, Beau DeRusseau (Mollie); niece Danielle Lambert (Michael); great nephews, Kane Lambert and Deacon Lambert; and uncle Brad Warren (Kathy).
She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin “Rex” DeRusseau, and grandparents, Jule and Goldie DeRusseau and LaVerne and Marie Warren.
A memorial service will be held at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde, Kansas on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Clyde, Kansas. The family requests casual dress.
