Larry Dean Blackwood, 74 years of age, of Clyde passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home in Clyde. He was born on September 5, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas to Dr. Dean “Doc” James and Madeleine (Kegle) Blackwood.
Larry was a 1968 Graduate of Clyde High School, Clyde, Kansas. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ft. Hays State University in 1972.
He went on to earn his master’s in business administration from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, in 1982.
Larry served in the United States Army during the Viet-Nam War. He was honorably discharged.
He worked for Beechcraft and Ampco in Wichita, Kansas before moving back to Clyde where he owned and operated the Blackwood’s Department Store in Clyde and made his return home.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #7515 in Clyde and the American Legion Post #76 Concordia.
Larry enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and volunteering at the V.F.W. Post #7515.
Larry is survived by his mother, Madeleine Blackwood, Clyde, KS his three sons, Justin Armbrister (Wendi), Blue Ridge, TX; Joseph Blackwood (Allison), Grants Pass, OR; Tyler Blackwood, Arnold, MO; his four Grandchildren, Shelby, JR, Jayden and Avery; his five brothers, Gary Blackwood of Holton, KS, Dr. Terry (Tammy) Blackwood of Concordia, KS, Dr. D.J. (Amy) Blackwood of Westmoreland, KS, Dr. Brad (Alisha) Blackwood of Clyde, KS, Lance (Cindi) Blackwood of Thompsons Station, TN; his five sisters, De (Allen) Roth of Hays, KS, Christine (Randy) Lawson of Agenda, KS, Debbie Blackwood of Holton, KS, Karla Weatherhead of Belleville,; KS & (Gary Ramseyer of Clyde), Jackie (Wayne) Brooks of Winfield, KS; brother-in-law, William Risetter, Juction City, KS many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Dean “Doc” James Blackwood, and a sister, Sonja Risetter.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April, 5, 2025 at the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas, with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the local V.F.W. Post #7515 Honor Guard, Clyde, Kansas.
Family and friends will gather after the graveside at the Community Hall where a luncheon and continued celebration of Larry’ s life will be held.
