Obituary-Marlene McCue

Marlene Jane McCue, 82 years of age, of Mankato, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Ascension Via-Christi of Manhattan in Manhattan, Kansas.  She was born on November 11, 1940, in Smith County, Kansas to Phillip and Hulda (Dettmer) Long. 

Marlene was a graduate of Jewell High School.

Marlene married Leo McCue on August 25, 1960, in Jetmore, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on September 2, 2011.

Marlene was a homemaker, also a bookkeeper at the local gas station that her husband Leo ran. Later Marlene enjoyed helping out with her husband Leo from time to time at the Stockton High School doing Janitorial work.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, Stockton, Kansas.

Her hobbies included, crafting, sewing and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Marlene is survived by her three sisters, Sharon Beckley of Mankato, KS; Joy Hancock, Mankato, KS; Betty Zade, Belleville, KS; three brothers, Donald Long, Mankato, KS; Ronald Long, Jewell, KS; Darwin Long (Crystal) Ionia, KS; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Anderson McCue, parents, Phillip and Hulda Long, three sisters, Carol Gordine, Phyllis Gates, Virginia Dix, her five brothers-in-law, Willie Beckley, Melvin Zade, Mervin Dixon, Pete Hancock and Alfred Gordine.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Christian Church, in Mankato, Kansas with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato, KS.
