Obituary-Melvin F. Mansfield

Melvin F. Mansfield, age 95, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas.  He was born on a farm in Center Township in rural Cloud County near Concordia, Kansas to Sidney Linten & Grace Maude (Swearingen) Mansfield.

He attended elementary school at Pleasant Hill Dist. 12 in Cloud County. He later received his GED.  He took classes at Cloud County Community College and later took courses with Foley Belsaw and received a locksmith certificate.  He was a 20 year member of the Kansas Hospital Engineers Association.

Growing up he worked on the farm, worked construction and was a bulldozer operator.  He worked for McFall Tire Service, Hood Construction, Concordia Lumber Co., St. Joseph Hospital in maintenance, Republic County Hospital as the hospital engineer and plant operations and then for the Sisters of St. Joseph Nazareth Convent as the supervisor of buildings and grounds until his retirement on August 28, 1992 as the property services management and long range planning.

He married Marjorie DeGraff on Feb. 2, 1952 in Salina, KS and to this union were born, Susan and Curtis.  They later divorced.  He married Barbara (Crum) Sheridan in Belleville, KS on May 30, 1980 and she preceded him on April 24, 2019.

He is survived by his children, Susan (Gary) Lindeen & Curtis (Tammy) Mansfield; stepchildren, Beth Lewis, Brenda (Dane) Hanson & Brian (Teresa) Sheridan; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; brothers, Robert Lloyd, twin infant brothers, Austin & Billy & a sister, Hazel Johnson.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 1-8 pm at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with the family greeting friends from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, November 7, 2022 at the funeral home with Fr. David Metz officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
