Obituary-Odette Chaput

Noel Odette Chaput, of Plainville, KS, passed away on September 24, 2024, in Plainville. He was born on September 1, 1936, to Alex and Louise (Odette) Chaput in Concordia, KS. He attended Concordia Catholic Schools, and married Carolyn Marlene Campbell on June 9, 1956, excited to start a family of their own.

Odette began working at a grocery store at the age of 14. His first full-time position in the grocery business was in Clay Center, KS. He continued in Smith Center, then Phillipsburg, and finished out his career at Mr. K’s Foodtown in Plainville for 42 years.

Odette was known for clowning at the 4th Grade Banquet in Plainville, playing guitar, golf, assisting in telethons, and visiting and volunteering at Redbud Village. He was active in the Lions Club for over 60 years, interacting with the community at Mr. K’s, and hanging out at Stan’s Barber Shop with the guys! Mostly, he treasured time with his wife and family.

Odette leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Chaput; two daughters, Janine (Chaput) Kaup and her husband Jeff of Plainville and Ralene (Chaput) Shimon and her husband Mike of Carlsbad, California; two sisters, Laura Jo Meyer and Regina Vignery; brother-in-law, Rick Brumfield; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Dana (Chaput) Lesher; son-in-law, Floyd “Jr.” Lesher; parents, Alex and Louise Chaput; three sisters, Connie Budreau, Mary Janet Brumfield and Ann Kliem; and brothers-in-law, “Bud” Budreau, George Meyer, Del Vignery and Lew Kliem.

Odette will always be remembered for his faith, love of family, work ethic, and bringing laughter and joy to others.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 206 N. Washington, Plainville, KS 67663. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 6-8PM with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7PM at the Church. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Plainville Food Pantry and Concordia Catholic School and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St., Plainville, KS 67663.
