Obituary-Richard “Dick” Hinkle

Richard “Dick” Hinkle, 73, Washington, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at the Washington County Hospital surrounded by family and friends from complications from cancer.

A visitation will be held Saturday, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., February 21, 2026 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington.

Burial will be private

Dick was born to Ivan and Viva (Dexter) Hinkle in Washington, KS on September 1, 1952. He attended Washington Schools and graduated Washington High School in 1970.  He worked for several business throughout his life; Eaton Body Shop, Zabokrtsky Hardware, Koch Motors, Leotia Feed Lot, Ralph Pearson Hogs, Washington Vet Clinic/Willis Keesecker Farms, Farmers Coop, Washington Auto Parts, Jeff Brabec, Washington County, and Terry Everhart Trucking. He liked to stay active and busy. 

On April 21, 1973, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Trude in Concordia, KS.  To this union two children were born, Angie and Robert.

Dick was a member of the Washington Airport Board, KNAB and the Washington Saddle Club.  Family was important to him and he enjoyed all the family get togethers.  One dinner will always be remembered because he dropped a full lemon meringue pie.

He loved bowling and playing golf.  He played the guitar but the all-time favorite activity was driving his jeep all over especially anywhere in Colorado.

Preceding him in death was his father, Ivan; sister-in-law, Pat Hinkle; and brother-in-law, Dan Switzer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; mother, Viva; daughter, Angie (Duane) Toews; son, Robert (Amber) Hinkle; and brother, Steve Hinkle; sister, Cheryl Switzer; and four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

A memorial fund is established to KSDS or Morrison House of Salina.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, KS 66968.
