Obituary- Richard Pendergrass

Richard “Max” Pendergrass, age 82, entered into rest on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the North Central Medical Center in Concordia, Kansas.   He was born on December 27, 1942 in McPherson, Kansas to Harvey “Pat” and Verda (Mayhew) Pendergrass.

He attended school in El Dorado, Kansas, graduating in 1960. He attended Butler County Community College before joining the US Air Force.

He married Sharon Nickels on September 20, 1964 in El Dorado, Kansas. This union brought two children, Brian and Lisa. The family eventually settled in Concordia, Kansas.

He was a member of The Baptist Church Concordia. He worked for AT&T Long Lines until he retired. He returned to work and found a passion for Kansas One Call where he developed a strong network of associates—everyone in the utilities community knew him.

Max enjoyed following the sports teams of his kids and grandkids. He was always calling to check scores and get reports of the games.

Max is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home in Concordia; son, Brian Pendergrass (Lori), Wichita, KS; daughter, Lisa Supple (Chris), Edgerton, KS; grandchildren, Captain Alec Pendergrass, Travis AFB, Haley Pendergrass, Ave Maria, FL, Marin Pendergrass, Wichita, KS, Ellie Supple, Manhattan, KS, and Nicholas Supple, Edgerton, KS.

He was preceded by his parents and parents-in-law.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. pm at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services for Richard will be held 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at The Baptist Church in Concordia, with Pastor Tim Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
