Richard “Ric” Johnson, 89, Washington, died September 25, 2022 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be 10:30, Saturday, October 1, at the Washington Christian Church in Washington. Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Gay Lynn Manning is organist.
Pallbearers are Leland Cook, Tim Rundle, Mike Manning, George Cecrle, Curtis Stamm and Clinton Stamm. Honorary pallbearers are Malcolm Stamm, Stanford Stamm, Lee Pifer, Butch Bruna, Ted Bruna and Kevin Keller.
Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
Ric was born July 25, 1933 in Scandia to Joseph and Minnie Esther (Isaacson) Johnson. He attended Pleasant Valley School thru the 8th grade and graduated from Scandia High School in 1951. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served through the Korean Conflict until 1956.
Ric married Louise Beeman on August 12, 1962 and they raised three sons, Terry, Fred and Gary. He owned and operated Johnson Feed and Grain in Washington from 1963 to 1985. He was fortunate to have numerous loyal employees and customers. In 1985, he retired for several years before finding a new adventure in crop adjusting in 1989, which filled in his down time of retirement until 2013.
Ric is survived by sons, Terry (Nancy) Beeman, Topeka, Gary (Jan) Beeman, Ridgeway, CO; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a nephew and several nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Louise; son, Fred Beeman; siblings, Everett Johnson, Harold Johnson, Gladys Johnson and Helen Johnson.
A memorial fund is established to Manhattan Christian College, Washington Christian Church or Washington Fire Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
