Obituary-Romelle Sue Van Sickle

Romelle Sue Van Sickle, age 80 of Riley, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Ascension Via Christ St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

She was born on October 2, 1943 in Clay Center, the daughter of John Justis and Verna Wilemina (Bohnenblust) Wilt.

On October 20, 1963 at the Riley United Methodist Church, she married Wayne Bryce Van Sickle.  He preceded her in death in 2021.

She worked as a secretary at Kansas Wheat Improvement and in the U.S.D. 378 Superintendent’s Office before buying the Riley Countian, where she served as the editor for 22 years.  She was a member of the Riley United Methodist Church, Riley United Methodist Women and Riley Neighborhood Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Dana McLean and husband A.G. of Fostoria; two sons, Brian Van Sickle and wife Jennifer of Riley, and David Van Sickle and wife Kaycia of St. Marys; one sister, Corliss Fleming and husband Patrick of Lonoke, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Quint McLean, Caitlin McLean (Anna Casner), Ashley Pryor (John), Sheridan Milner (Killian), Saige Ham (Zach), Kanon Van Sickle, Rayce Van Sickle and Jett Van Sickle, and 3 great grandchildren, Caroline Pryor, Adleigh Ham and River Milner.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two great grandchildren, Hope Pryor and Rowan Pryor.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Riley United Methodist Church with Pastor Glenn Fogo officiating.  Music will be furnished by Kathy Weaver and Mel Nudson.

Memorials may be made to the RCHS Alumni Association Scholarship Fund and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
