Ronald L. “Ron” Scott, 78, died Saturday November 8, 2025 at UNMC in Omaha, NE.
Visitation will be 9 a.m., Saturday, November 15 at the Washington Methodist Church with the funeral service following at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Fairbury City Cemetery, Fairbury, NE.
Ron was born April 19, 1947 to Goldie and Clara (Allacher) Scott in Oberlin, KS. He spent his young life helping his dad at the family cream station and then later spent time working at grocery stores during his high school and college years.
After graduating from Ft. Hays State, he went to work at USD 221 (Morrowville High School) teaching and coaching. It was there he met his wife, Christine Harris, they married in 1975. He went on to teach and coach at Alton/Osborne Schools and Juniata Elementary. In 1984, Ron became the Washington County Elementary Principal and was there for thirty years; coaching basketball for several of those years – even taking the team to State in 1988 where they placed 2nd. He retired in 2014.
Ron loved his job working with the kids, and always said it took him thirty years to “graduate” from school. He taught driver’s ed and could be seen driving around town every summer with his students.
After retiring, Ron started working for the Event Staff at the University of Nebraska for eleven years. That was his second love – taking tickets at the Husker football and volleyball games.
Ron leaves behind many friends, students and teachers that he felt privileged to be a part of their lives.
His children were his pride and joy – Jason, Sarah and Gina and together they provided fourteen grandchildren, Cora, Ainsley, Easton, Ale, JJ, Maria, Dawaun, Jerrimyah, Jahmir, Clara, Emmitt, Henry, Edith and Benjamin, for him to play ball with and make caramel popcorn.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son, John; and seven brothers and sisters, Gene, Doris, Pearl Elizabeth, Ina Marie, Dwayne, Betty Lou and Janice.
Survivors include his wife, Christine, children, Jason Scott, Sarah (Curtis) Lockhart and Gina (Calvin) Brichat; brother, Dennis (Geneva) Scott, sisters, Linda (Dick) Weber and Judy Scott; and fourteen grandchildren.
A memorial fund is established in his name to be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, KS.
