Obituary-Sharon Coy

Sharon K. (Meier) Coy, age 85, formerly of Concordia, Kansas, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Azria Health in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born on August 18, 1937 in Salina, Kansas to David B. and Ethel Delilah (Ward) Meier.

She lived in Lucas, Kansas, until 1943 when she moved with her parents to Concordia, Kansas.  She graduated from Concordia High School in 1955.  In 1957 she married Jack Lyle Coy in Concordia.  Their daughter, Sherri Lynn, was born in 1959 in North Tonawanda, N.Y.  Their marriage ended in divorce.

She was a longtime employee of The Blade-Empire, working first as an assistant bookkeeper, later as a typesetter and for many years as a reporter and editor of the People Page where she especially enjoyed writing feature stories.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary and Cloud County Historical Society. She loved to swim and sing, alone and with others. She found great joy in the many flowers her daughter would plant for her every Mother’s Day and never met a cat or dog she didn’t like.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Wood of Park City; sister, Mary Ann Gile and husband Bill of Citrus Heights, California; nieces Lynne Tracy-Kendall and Laurie Roper of Sacramento, CA; and nephews, Steve Gile of Eureka, California, and David Meier of France; and her cat, Oreo.

Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Garry Winget officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
