Obituary-Steven R. Hamel

Steven R. Hamel, 65, of Belleville,  the son of Roy Junior Hamel and Dorothy Mae (LeDuc) Hamel, was born October 18, 1957 in Concordia, Kansas and passed away on March 23, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lincoln, NE.

Steve attended school in Clyde, KS, graduating from Clyde High School.

He received respiratory training and later graduated as a registered respiratory therapist.

In Steve’s early years, he was an auto mechanic, truck driver, and also received training as an EMT, working in Clay County.     He later worked as a respiratory therapist in southeast Kansas and in other locations and later for 13 years in Colby, KS.  In recent years, he moved to Belleville, Kansas.

Steve served with the National Guard.  He then enlisted with the U. S. Army for three years and later served with the Army Reserves for nearly 17 years.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Marie Ulbrich and to this union was born, Khyla, Parker, and Austin.  They were later divorced.

Steve was a member of the Republican Valley Muzzle Loaders Association.

He enjoyed the black powder events, bowling, and buying & selling/bartering goods for himself and others.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (LeDuc) Hamel

Steve is survived by his children, Khyla Hamel of Belleville, Kansas, Parker Hamel  and Austin Hamel both of Colby, Kansas;   his father, Roy J. Hamel of Clifton, KS;  siblings, David W. Hamel of Beaumont, TX,  Brenda J. Andersen of Belleville, KS, Linda Hamel of Shawnee, KS, Cynthia A. Taylor of Shawnee, KS; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS, with Fr. Henry Baxa, officiating.

Inurnment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Clyde, KS with Military Graveside Rites.

Friends may call to sign the register from 1 PM until 6 PM on Friday.

A Rosary/Vigil service will be held at 5 PM Friday at the Bachelor-Surber Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Steven R. Hamel Memorial Fund and may be directed to the family.
