Wilma “Eileen” Gieswein, 91, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa and Concordia, Kansas, passed away on March 13, 2022 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa. Eileen was born March 15, 1930 in Freeport, Kansas, to Merl and Wilma (Trigg) Salser.
She married William E. Gieswein on February 22, 1951. Eileen graduated from the College of Emporia (Kansas) and obtained her teaching certification. She was an elementary school librarian in Concordia before retiring in 1992.
Eileen moved with her husband Ed to Maquoketa, Iowa in 1995. She enjoyed camping, quilting, sewing and reading, in addition to belonging to PEO and several church organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William “Ed” Gieswein, a son Kent Gieswein and brothers Everett Salser and Don Salser.
Those left to remember her are a daughter, Kathy Bodnar of Aurora, Colorado, a son, Dr. Kirk (Claudia) Gieswein of Coralville, Iowa and a daughter Kay Oliver of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Kenny (Jennifer) Bodnar, Joel (Jessica) Gieswein, Jared (Asia) Oliver and Allision Gieswein and three great-grandchildren.
A Graveside memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9th at 1:00 pm, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Jim Hawley officiating. Family will gather at the First Presbyterian Church in Concordia for refreshments following the Graveside services for continued fellowship, and sharing memories of Eileen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City, the First Presbyterian Church of Concordia, Kansas or the Alzheimer’s Association.
