Scott Hill of Abilene has been selected to replace J.R. Claeys as the District 24 Kansas Senator after winning a delegate vote on June 16. Claeys stepped down to accept a position in the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Trump Administration.
Hill, formerly the District 70 Representative, prevailed over retired Saline County Treasurer Jim Dubois at the convention, with 126 of 132 eligible delegates participating. Hill expressed enthusiasm for the new role, noting the Senate’s distinct operations as a fresh challenge.
Initially hesitant, Hill decided to run after consulting with colleagues and recognizing the importance of experience during pivotal legislative times. Representing Saline and Dickinson Counties, Hill plans to focus on Saline due to its larger population.
Hill will be sworn in as Senator this Thursday, June 26th, at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. He and his wife Lynette will continue living in Abilene.
