Governor Kelly Appoints John W. Fresh to Fill District Court Position in the 1st Judicial District

TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly today appointed John W. Fresh of Atchison to a judgeship position in the 1st Judicial District. The position was created through the retirement of Chief Judge David King.

“John will bring extensive legal experience and knowledge to the bench,” Governor Kelly said. “This expertise, along with his commitment to the community, will make him a valuable addition to the 1st District.”

Fresh currently serves as an Attorney & Partner for Farris, Fresh, & Werring LLC. He is active in the legal community with his membership in Atchison Bar Association and the Kansas Bar Association.

“I am humbled and honored by this opportunity,” Fresh said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the local community and legal needs of the 1st Judicial District in this new capacity.”

District Court Judges in the 1st Judicial District are appointed by the governor and selected from nominees chosen by a district nominating commission. Judges in nominating commission districts are subject to retention elections every four years.

The other nominees selected by the district nominating commission were Rhonda K. Levinson and Andrew E. Werring.
