A petition has been filed to recall Jeff Underhill from his position as a Junction City Commissioner. Geary County Clerk Courtney Gilbert confirmed that the petition outlines allegations of misconduct, including the revocation of Underhill’s insurance license due to fraud and deception. The petition has been sent to County Attorney Krista Blaisdell, who has five business days to determine if the stated grounds meet legal requirements.
If approved, the Recall Committee—comprised of Stephen Capizzi, Samuel Arias, and Tom Remily—can begin collecting signatures. They need 390 valid signatures from registered voters in Junction City within 90 days. The Election Office then has 30 days to verify them. If deemed valid, a special election will be held, asking voters whether they want to recall Underhill.
Underhill was recently chosen by fellow commissioners to serve as mayor for the year. He has not yet commented on the recall effort.
