Riley County Seeking Election Day Workers for November

Riley County Release

Riley County Elections Division is hoping to hire 20 to 25 additional Election Day Workers to cover the General Election on November 5.

“For the 2020 Presidential Election, almost 65% of registered voters participated with a total of 25,073 ballots cast. We’re expecting, and hoping for, even more voters this year, so we want to ensure plenty of staff are on hand to help,” explained Rich Vargo, Riley County Clerk.

Election Day Workers are responsible for staffing polling locations, checking voter IDs, escorting voters to voting machines, and closing the polling place at the end of the day. The shift is typically 14 hours on Election Day, with required training sessions that are completed beforehand.

“I like to say that everyone should work elections at least once so they can understand the integrity of the system. What has impressed me the most during my time as an election worker is the security, training, and integrity of our local election system. Election days sometimes feel long, but they are great opportunities to make friends and interact with not-yet-friends. I look forward to working many more elections!” said Sara Fisher, Riley County Election Day Worker.

All Election Day Workers must be U.S. Citizens 18 years of age or older who are registered to vote in Riley County.
