Susan Adamchak, previously mayor pro tem, has taken over as Manhattan mayor according to a city ordinance. She is five months into her tenure on the city commission following her election to the board in November.
Adamchak ascended to the role of mayor Thursday after former mayor Wynn Butler’s resignation earlier that day. Butler’s departure came after he was cited for a DUI crash into a Manhattan liquor store Wednesday evening.
With Butler’s departure, the commission is currently one person short. With city ordinances stating that the commission can choose the method of assigning a new commissioner, whether by appointment or by election.
Commissioners are expected to discuss the matter of filling Butler’s open spot at the May 21 meeting, with the potential for a special meeting to occur before then.
