Easter Meal Kits to Help Dickinson County Families, Thanks to Local Student

This Easter, food banks across Dickinson County will offer meal kits containing recipes for families in need, thanks to Fort Hays State University student Amber Otten. Otten, inspired by her own upbringing in rural Kansas, has organized a food drive called Baskets of Blessings to help those struggling with rising food prices post-COVID-19.

She is requesting specific food donations to create meal kits with recipes like doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, drop biscuits, seven-can soup, green bean casserole, and cherry cheesecake crunch. Families will receive these recipes along with the kits.

Donations can be dropped off at participating locations until April 11, with food distribution scheduled from April 14 through April 22. Each recipient will receive meal kits based on family size, ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need during the holiday season.

Participating organizations are:

  • Abilene Neighbor-to-Neighbor: April 14 through April 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Abilene Area Food Pantry: April 14, April 16, and April 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • 4:10 Irish Den: April 14 through April 18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The city of Solomon (pick-up is at the Solomon City Hall Community Room): April 22 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • A location in Herington is to be determined.
