Today, July 23, following Executive Order #20-30, Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities, effective immediately until sundown on the day of interment, in honor of former Kansas House Speaker Marvin William Barkis.

“Speaker Barkis championed legislation throughout his career that propelled our schools forward and supported Kansas families,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “His contributions to our state will not be forgotten. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.”

An update on this flag order will be released once the date of interment is determined
