Marshall County Arts Cooperative
The Marshall County Arts Cooperative invites the community to help give the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art’s old floor a proper send-off before it’s replaced with a brand-new one. Tearin’ Up the Dance Floor will be Sunday, September 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art, 201 South 9th, Marysville.
The afternoon event will feature big band music, line dances and tunes from across the decades. Light refreshments will be served, and guests are welcome to bring a drink of their choice. Admission is by freewill donation, with proceeds supporting the arts cooperative’s capital campaign to install new flooring in the gallery.
The Lee Dam Center for Fine Art is a city-owned building managed by the arts cooperative. In addition to serving as a gallery for rotating exhibitions, it is a popular rental space for meetings, receptions, showers, weddings and other community events.
“This project ensures the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art continues to be both an attractive gallery space and a welcoming gathering place for the community,” said Sonya Kee, the organization’s treasurer.
As capital improvements move forward, the arts cooperative will continue presenting exhibitions that connect art with community. In October, the gallery will celebrate Manufacturing Month with a special show titled “The Art of Manufacturing.” The exhibition will feature photographs from Landoll Company and other area manufacturers, showcasing the innovation behind local industries. It is an opportunity to see manufacturing not only as a driver of the economy but also as a form of artistry.
In November, the gallery will host an exhibition of paintings by Avary Hague. Having grown up around the world in a family brimming with creativity, Hague’s work reflects an appreciation for detail, color and realism. Inspired by Manet’s belief that “there are no lines in nature, only areas of color,” Hague builds each piece stroke by stroke, bringing out contrasts, flaws and subtleties that reveal the true character of the subject. Her paintings invite viewers to see the ordinary in a brighter, more vibrant light.
