The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to temporarily close a portion of I-70 in Geary County at J-Hill Road. The closure is necessary to demolish and remove the existing J-Hill Road bridge which will be replaced.
Eastbound and westbound I-70 will close at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, and reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. I-70 traffic will be diverted up and down the interchange ramps at exit 299 during the closures. Local traffic will be unable to access I-70 at exit 299 during the closure.
King Construction of Hesston is the prime contractor of the bridge replacement project, which is scheduled to be complete by July 2026, conditions permitting.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas, go to kandrive.gov or call 511.
