The Geary County Historical Society, located at 530 N. Adams, will host an exhibit opening on June 13th from 6pm-8pm. The exhibit, titled “The Missing Piece: Black History in Geary County” explores the untold stories of Black citizens of Geary County and is part of a partnership with the Black History Trail of Geary County. Visitors will be able to explore the history of local exodusters, learn about “the Colored 400” social elites of the early 20th century, and put together the puzzle of local Black history. 

All are welcome to join in the unveiling of this new exhibit. Admission to the Geary County Historical Society is free and light refreshments will be served. Visitors will also be able to place their orders for Geary County Black History puzzles at the event if they have not already done so. 

Visitors should be aware that there is ongoing painting being done at the Museum. Parking will be available in the grassy lot to the rear of the building and caution should be taken around construction equipment. 

The exhibit is funded by Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area as a part of the America 250th anniversary celebration.
