Washington’s Old City Hall set to be Demolished by End of the Month

By Ryan Duey

The City of Washington has voted to have the old city hall building torn down with demolition expected to start by the end of February.

The City had attempted to find new uses for the old building, but after multiple private showings, nothing came of it. The City accepted a $32,000 bid from Orval Jueneman Dozer Services in June of 2023 for demolition and removal.

City Administrator Carl Chalfant and other council members did not want to have the old city hall torn down, but the with the water and roof damage there was nothing else they could do with the building.

The Council will start working on ideas for the empty lot once the building is demolished.
