The finalists for the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were announced, with winners to be revealed on November 3. Each league has three finalists at every position, including the utility spot, which was added in 2022.
In the American League, the Kansas City Royals had several players recognized. Pitchers Seth Lugo and Cole Ragans are finalists after contributing to a rotation that ranked second in ERA in baseball this season. Catcher Freddy Fermin is also a finalist, known for his strong defense and ability to control the running game. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. rounds out the Royals’ nominees, having led AL shortstops in Outs Above Average.
The Gold Glove winners are selected based on votes from MLB managers and coaches, which make up 75% of the decision, while the SABR Defensive Index accounts for the remaining 25%. The awards will be presented on ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” on November 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
