Dairon Blanco delivered a career performance during Players’ Weekend, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 13-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Using a yellow crayon bat, Blanco hit two home runs, including his first career grand slam, and drove in seven runs—all within his first three at-bats. The outfielder’s seven RBIs tied for the second-most in a single game in Royals history.
Blanco’s impressive showing from the No. 9 spot powered the Royals, who have now won eight of Michael Wacha’s last nine starts. Wacha earned the win with six scoreless innings in his 250th career start. Despite changing bats later in the game, Blanco’s early contributions were more than enough to secure the win.
“I’m just grateful for the opportunity,” Blanco said after the game, reflecting on his memorable night.
