Cal defeated No. 24 K-State 6-3 in the baseball season opener. Seven K-State players got hits, with three pitchers tallying 12 strikeouts. Despite efforts, K-State dropped the game. Newcomers Danniel Rivera and Jayden Lobliner hit back-to-back doubles, and Brendan Jones hit a two-run shot. Cal’s Trey Newmann had a strong debut, pitching four scoreless innings. Christian Becerra earned the win for Cal, while Josh Wintroub took the loss for K-State. Kaelen Culpepper extended his on-base streak to eight games. K-State left seven runners on base, Cal left four. K-State led in extra-base hits 4-3 but struggled with runners in scoring position. Cal leads the series 8-0. Next, K-State faces Boston College.
