Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown will miss the team’s season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Andy Reid announced. Brown, a key offseason addition, dislocated his shoulder on the first play of the preseason and is still recovering. Reid praised Brown’s progress but confirmed he won’t be ready for Thursday’s game.
The Chiefs anticipated Brown’s absence by keeping seven wide receivers on their active roster, including first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy and recent signing JuJu Smith-Schuster. Reid plans to utilize all six available receivers, emphasizing that quarterback Patrick Mahomes has built a good rapport with them, including Smith-Schuster, who led the Chiefs in receiving yards in 2022. Reid also expressed confidence in Worthy, despite his lack of regular-season experience, noting his strong practice performances and willingness to adapt to the team’s system.
