MANHATTAN, Kan. – Ed O’Donnell, the inaugural “Voice of K-State Women’s Basketball” from 1985 to 2002, passed away on April 24, 2024, at his home after battling multiple myeloma. O’Donnell, who also survived stomach cancer, was 84.

A memorial service will be held on August 15 at 3 p.m. at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Mission, Kansas.

O’Donnell and Steve Physioc made history in 1980-81 by broadcasting K-State’s women’s basketball games against Kansas, the first such broadcasts in Big Eight history. O’Donnell broadcast three NCAA Tournament appearances and a Big Eight regular season title during his tenure.

O’Donnell’s career spanned 45 years in radio and television, primarily at WIBW Radio in Topeka. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters and was inducted into the Kansas Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2004.
