LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s golf to-be senior Lily Hirst clinched the English Women’s Open Championship at Stoneham Golf Club with a 72-hole score of 71-75-74-70—290 (-6). Hirst, from Huddersfield, United Kingdom, led the 123-player field by four strokes.
Ranked No. 506 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Hirst excelled in the four-round stroke play event, making the cut after two rounds. “I’m speechless,” Hirst said. “I knew I needed to shoot low and attack everything.”
Hirst’s final round 70 included an eagle on the par 4 seventh hole and three birdies. She competed in all 12 events for the Jayhawks in the 2023-24 season, averaging a 72.3 scoring average over 33 rounds.
To-be senior Johanna Ebner also competed, finishing tied for fourth with rounds of 71-73-77-76—297 (+1). Ebner won the Women’s International Austrian Amateur Championship earlier this June.
