On May 9, K-State’s track and field teams excelled in the hammer throw events at the Big 12 Championship. Senior Kade McCall won the men’s event with a throw of 69.83m, marking the first hammer throw win in K-State history. Junior Monique Hardy claimed victory in the women’s event with a throw of 64.24m, the first win for K-State women since 2019. Additionally, freshman Riley Marx landed on the podium with a 3rd place finish in the men’s javelin.
In the women’s heptathlon, senior Urte Bacianskaite finished 4th overall, winning the shot put and achieving a notable finish in the 200 meters.
On May 10, despite weather delays, K-State continued to perform well. Senior Urte Bacianskaite secured a bronze medal in the heptathlon, winning the javelin event and finishing strong in the long jump and 800 meters. Daisy Monie achieved a new personal best and placed 4th in the women’s shot put.
Junior Tommy Hazen and senior Hannah Stewart both earned podium finishes in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Junior Jessi Brummett also reached the podium with an 8th place throw in the javelin.
On May 11, K-State concluded the championship with eight more podium finishes, bringing the total to 19 medalists. The men’s team finished 10th and the women’s team finished 11th in the overall standings. Notable performances included the men’s 4×400 relay team securing 5th place and sophomore Nate Collier’s 5th place finish in the men’s discus throw.
Overall, K-State showcased strong performances across various events, with athletes consistently landing on the podium and setting personal bests despite challenging weather conditions.
