K-State Edges Kansas in Sunflower Showdown Thriller

By Jayson Henderson

Kansas State secured a hard-fought 29-27 victory over Kansas in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, thanks to a late 51-yard field goal by Chris Tennant. The game saw both teams trading leads, with Kansas holding a 27-23 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

K-State’s defense proved pivotal in the final moments, stalling Kansas’s offense and forcing a key turnover that set up Tennant’s decisive kick. Avery Johnson led a crucial drive early in the fourth quarter to close the gap, and a late defensive strip and recovery allowed Tennant to seal the win.

The Wildcats, now 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play, extended their streak to 16 consecutive wins over Kansas. They remain firmly in the hunt for a top spot in the Big 12 as they prepare for next week’s matchup against Houston.
