By Jayson Henderson

On Tuesday, the K-State women’s tennis team had three players recognized on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams. Maria Santos, Vanesa Suarez, and Manami Ukita earned spots on the prestigious list.

Santos, a junior majoring in business, was the only Wildcat named to the First-Team. This marks her second consecutive conference academic honor, following her selection to the All-Rookie team last season.

Suarez and Ukita were named to the Second-Team. This brings the total to 12 women being named to the academic team 27 times over the last six seasons under head coach Jordan Smith.

First-Team honors are awarded to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.20 or higher, while Second-Team selections require a GPA between 3.00 and 3.19. To qualify, student-athletes must have competed in the program for at least one previous year and have participated in 20 percent of the team’s scheduled contests.
