K-State’s Eugene Omalla secured an Olympic gold medal on Saturday, August 3, with The Netherlands 4×400 Mixed Relay team at the Stade de France in Paris. Omalla ran the first leg of the relay, helping the team, which included Lieke Klaver, Isaya Klein Ikkink, and Femke Bol, to a winning time of 3:07.43. The Dutch team narrowly edged out Team USA, who finished with a time of 3:07.74. This victory marks Omalla’s addition to K-State’s Olympic legacy, bringing the total to 10 medals, including four golds. Omalla’s performance also highlighted the event’s competitive nature, with the Dutch team coming just two-hundredths of a second shy of tying the Olympic and World Record.
