KANSAS CITY — The Royals staged a comeback on Sunday, securing a 4-3 walk-off win over the Padres at Kauffman Stadium.
Down two runs in the ninth with runners on first and second, Nelson Velázquez hit a two-run triple to tie the game. Nick Loftin followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Velázquez home for the win.
Royals’ lefty Cole Ragans allowed one run over six innings, striking out six. Padres’ righty Michael King gave up one run in seven innings. The Padres rallied in the eighth against reliever Angel Zerpa, scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead.
This win ended the Royals’ three-game losing streak and gave them momentum heading into Monday’s off-day before their division matchup against the Guardians on Tuesday.
