As vehicle technology continues to advance, AAA raises awareness about the potential dangers of in-vehicle distractions. Recent research conducted by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the University of Utah reveals that interactions with infotainment systems can significantly impair a driver’s cognitive and visual functions. Despite the convenience offered by these technologies, drivers must remain vigilant, as distractions can persist even after ceasing interaction with in-vehicle tech. AAA’s Shawn Steward cautions against “inattention blindness,” where drivers fail to perceive hazards despite having their eyes on the road. By educating drivers about the lingering effects of technology-related distractions, AAA aims to promote safer driving practices and reduce the risk of accidents caused by cognitive impairment behind the wheel.
