Abilene to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with New Mural

By Ryan Duey

To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, Abilene is honoring the nation’s founding with a new mural. The “Abilene Celebrates America 250 Mural Project” is a collaborative effort between Abilene VFW Post #3279, the Community Foundation of Dickinson County, Abilene NSDAR, and the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The mural will be painted on the VFW Post #3279 building by Mindy’s Murals of Junction City. Bill Marshall, former Quartermaster of the VFW and SAR member, said the idea of a mural on the VFW building has been on his mind for a while.

Marshall said this will be the first mural in Kansas celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Marshall explained what the mural will look like.

Marshall said they plan to start the mural on Monday, July 29th. Be on the lookout for the new mural honoring America and our military in the near future.
