Assistants to Help Drive Ambulances in Washington and Hanover

By Ryan Duey

Washington and Hanover Ambulance Services will now have Ambulance Assistants to help drive ambulances as needed. Caroline Scoville, Washington EMT, details how this service came to be.

Scoville says that there is currently a shortage of EMTs, and this new special waiver will help fill the gap until new EMTs are fully trained.

The Kansas Board of EMS adopted this program in April of 2023 and Washington is the first Ambulance Service to be approved for this service, with a few other service areas applying and currently awaiting approval.
