Ceremony Scheduled for Deploying Soldiers

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 635th Armor Regiment, and the 170th Maintenance Company of the Kansas National Guard will be recognized at a departure ceremony on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Stormont Vail Event Center, One Expocenter Drive, Topeka. Doors will open at 9 a.m.

The 1-635th and 170th MC are deploying in support of Operation Spartan Shield, led by Lt. Col. Matthew Holler. Their mission is to train military partners and maintain a lasting presence that fosters peace and stability.

National Guard, Lt. Col. Holler stated, “I am proud of each of these soldiers and humbled by their dedication.”

The 1st Battalion, 635th Armor Regiment is headquartered in Kansas City, with detachments in Emporia, Junction City, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Wichita. Meanwhile, the 170th Maintenance Company is based in Wichita.
