K-State Tractor Team Takes 2nd Place at International Competition

MANHATTAN — The Helwig Farms Quarter-Scale Tractor Team continues to uphold its winning tradition at the ASABE International Quarter-Scale Design Competition. In 2023, the team secured an impressive 2nd place finish, adding to their remarkable track record.

Having participated in the competition 26 times, the team has emerged victorious on nine occasions. Additionally, they have achieved second place finishes nine times and third place finishes twice, accumulating a total of 20 top-three finishes.

This success not only showcases the students’ knowledge of theory and practical application but also hones their skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and time-management—qualities highly sought after by employers.

The quarter-scale tractor design team’s involvement allows students to gain hands-on experience in drive-train systems, tractor performance, manufacturing processes, and material analysis.

The 2023 team comprised 12 students from the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, representing four degree programs.
