Wayne Luckert, a farmer in Brewster, Kansas, near the Kansas-Colorado border, encountered a mountain lion while driving through his farm yesterday. Luckert said he reported the encounter to the local game warden, who said the encounter was ‘pretty awesome.’ Despite another mountain lion being spotted on trail camera footage on the opposite side of the state just last week, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks says that encounters with mountain lions in the state are very rare. Just 60 sightings have been confirmed in the past 20 years, so the timing of the two sightings is likely just a coincidence.
