KDOT Invites Public Input on Charge Up Kansas NEVI Plan: Aiming to Boost EV Infrastructure with $40M Funding

By Trish Svoboda

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is seeking help from the public in deciding what’s next for the Charge Up Kansas National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Plan.

It is mandated that each state formulate a NEVI strategy to access funds designated for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging. This strategy will be revised on a yearly basis. The plan will detail how the state will use these funds to facilitate the establishment of a charging infrastructure.

Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), funding has been appropriated for every state to enhance EV charging and infrastructure. It is estimated that Kansas will be the recipient of close to $40 million in NEVI funds over a span of five years. In addition, agencies and communities within Kansas will have the opportunity to seek extra funding from $2.5 billion in discretionary programs.

To help create next year’s plan, KDOT is looking for feedback from the public on EV charging. To assist, complete the quick survey here.
